The more I read this thread the more excited I become ! Tomorrow I pick up my D500, they've finally landed in Shanghai, and that gives me 3 weeks to practice and learn what works (luckily it's migration time here too) and what doesn't before my Myanmar/Nepal/Bhutan jaunt.
The D500 + 200-500 will be my birding setup (D800E & 15-30 + 70-200 + Sony gear for everything else) so the positive feedback here is music to my ears ! Does anyone have any feedback on the D500 vs D800E (noise, DR, etc.) ?

Glad it's not just my imagination (I thought it might be). It's hard when you're not on your normal computer to know for sure. I think the D810 + D500 might be the best overall combo going for nature photographers.
You'll get no argument from me on that score. I can see this as the beginning of a beautiful relationship D810 + D500 + me. .

Just a quick one with my trio as weather here is anything but friendly
All ISO 6400, 1/125, f/8 hand held 100/2.8 VR macro
The D810 is super vibrant. D500 looks more pleasing!
What are we looking at here though? This isn't exactly low light since it could have been shot 3 stops lower @ ISO 800 with the same shutter speed.
Yes. It is not any kind of serious test. I wanted to see for myself if I could see any major difference. Except for an saturated D810 shot, the files looks OK to my kind of shooting. Not sure why the 810 looks red saturated and cooler on the other two.
From your first test with the cleaning products, it appears to my eyes that there is about 1 full stop better anti-noise performance at high ISO's for the D500 over the D7200.

Thanks for the test
Here's an objective comparison of the D7200 - D500 - D750
I think it's safe to say the D500 was optimized for sports and wildlife over the already very good D7200. If low light is your interest, FF is still the best choice by close to a full stop over the D500.
And then there is poor/low light Video. ISO 8000 and above.
My first D500 movie looks better to me than what I got from my D800e, D7000, D5300, and D750.
Not as good as my A7s, "Yet". I still have a lot of dialing in to do.
