p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Hello from New Hampshire!

Hello all,

I am a photographer in NH that specializes in high school Senior, children, and portrait photography. I also do families and engagements, but prefer the first 3 and would love to, exclusively, shoot Seniors one day. I am a little active on the POTN website, but looking for some other groups as well.

I am starting my 6th year in (very part-time) business and work seasonally and, primarily, in natural light. This works well with my schedule as I am also a homeschooling mom to 11 children! (3 graduated so far.)

Anyway, that's a little about me. I have perused the forum and see some amazing work here! Some I am familiar with and others, not. I am not actively starting my next season until May, but here is a link to my most recent work. I will also upload a few favorites from 2015. : Kristin Small Photography 500px
Thanks and I look forward to getting to know everyone here!

Set very beautiful, I especially liked the first,
It has soft lighting and gentle.

#3 is great because of those bright vibrant eyes. And # 3 has the amazing background similar to L. Holloway.

Thank you! The first was a big hit and a favorite of the family. #3 is from a winter shoot; late-afternoon (not quite the Golden Hour.)

I love the textures and color palette in the first one. Very nice body of work too.

What apart of New Hampshire are you in? I was born in Crystal.

Welcome. Three lovely photos. I think I prefer the first two, but that's not in any way intended to say there's something wrong with the third.

Thanks for sharing and I hope you enjoy this forum.

Hi Lisa! Thanks so much and the feeling is mutual. I was looking through the forum yesterday and saw your recent amazing twin shoot (so fun.) Looking forward to getting used to this place (like how to "multi-quote," .) <-- figured out the smilies, I think.

Thank you, everyone. I need to learn to "multi-quote," so back to quick reply. Diane, I am in Claremont which is on the Vermont border (about 20 miles from Dartmouth College.) I've been an Upper Valley gal for 28 years now! I love it here and it is gorgeous to shoot in, but we do have those LONG, DARK winters.

Thanks, Dave -- the last one definitely has a different feel. I look forward to sharing new work (season kicks off in May) and perusing everyone's else.

ETA: I just saw the multi-quote button. ::doink::

#1 is dreamy beautiful. She reminds me of Anne Hathaway in an English romance. In #2 I feel the young girl is squished between the bokeh and the foreground--the bokeh outsparkles here. #3 has a lovely color palette that all harmonizes well with her eyes. The entire picture seems to be a frame for her face and really shows her off very well. She seems to have been a little tired as her gaze does not seem fully there. Great work and introduction.

Interesting feedback! I have had MANY people tell me that this model looks like Anne Hathaway! She must truly be her doppelganger. I have to say that his was my most popular session of the year and is a great ad for late afternoon sun. (We couldn't get to the "Golden Hour.") Here is her album, if you are interested. It was a thematic Senior shoot and I give the model and her mother credit for the wardrobe and props: Evelyn, Class of '15

That bokeh was tricky in #2. I loved the color and light and thought her face was so well lit. I did crop in, but maybe I should even more.

As for #3, this was actually done in around 25 degree temps, so glad she only looks a little tired instead of freezing cold! They were horsing around a little before this shot, so maybe a bit winded. Thanks for the comments and welcome!

Lovely shots,composition,and colors.
On the first one, did you experiment with cropping the right side of the photo to be close to her elbow, and tighter op top to her head, and thus pulling her face to be just off center to the right? I'd be curious what you think if you give it a try.

This is the best use of train tracks I've seen in ages, I loved that they're used as part of the composition but not in the tired cliche manner we usually see them. The whole shoot is excellent, thanks for sharing.

It is a lovely set! Thanks for the link. My only quibble is sometimes, especially in a couple of close-ups, the red of her lipstick dominates. I would suggest something a little less vibrant so as not to clash with the pastels. It is not an issue at all in most of the pics and not in the one you shared here.

I totally get what you are saying and I did try it, but it was too painful to cut all those lilacs and the yellow light out. Not saying that, technically, it wouldn't have been better and it is borderline center. Just a tough call! Thanks.

Thanks so much! She was truly planning a humanitarian trip to France that summer, so she and her mother came up with that whole idea, including the location. Sadly, we did not find out until we got there that the front of the (old fashioned) depot was under construction, so utilized the tracks instead. She loves vintage outfits and came up with the whole deal, including getting the stickers designed and printed off for the suitcase! It was a dream set-up for a photographer.

I wondered about the red lipstick, too -- and I think we can blame Taylor Swift for that inspiration (she loves her); also her desire for a vintage look. My teen daughters said that the red lipstick was acceptable for the color scheme, so I took their word for it, but I did toy with toning it down.
