That's an area I still haven't shot in that direction. I like the horizontal the best, but think there is a bit to much magenta in the ground layer.

You nailed it Jim. I kept going back and forward on these images and could not figure out what was bothering me so much. Sometimes the answer is obvious! Thanks for pointing that out. I edited the images and like them better now.
Take care,
Fred
These images are beautiful Fred. I like the vertical one best because the beauty of the water and the canyon are enhanced. There is also some subtle lighting on the trees at the back of the canyon that seems to be brought out in the vertical as well. It is absolutely gorgeous. You sure are doing some great work with that FE 24-70.

Thanks Norman. Yes, the FE 24-70GM, just like the Canon 24-70L II are great lenses for landscapes.

Definitely the horizontal one for me. The vertical just feels like it cuts off too much.

I think it's safe to say that we got half and half for the orientation preferences. Maybe that's why I posted both...I couldn't decide myself.
Thanks for all comments and feedback on these two images!
The best things about this location is that there usually is not another photographer here at sunrise, since they are all bunched together at Mono Lake.
Fred, I like the vertical just a bit better. I think the winding stream works better in that one. Also, IMO, the areas added in the vertical are more interesting than the areas cropped from the horizontal, if that makes any sense
