mike...i take it as you're making fun of Sony 85GM lens right? if not, which rock you've you been living under?
lol, the rock of basic and simple reality, I ordered one, what makes you think I am making fun of the 85GM, it appears the 85GM is making fun of you
Fred or Guy: How is your battery draw with the testing of the lens? I have been testing to confirm what has been reported here, and it seems like the lens is "draining" the battery faster. Possibly due to the large motor?
Mine is draining a little fast because it's having to put extra force needed to get past the grinding. Fred has a good copy so his answer would be more correct.

i have my a7r2 set to "NOT" pre-AF.
if you do, i could imagine the battery getting drained pretty quickly with the 85GM.
those are bigger motors moving heavier glass and it's going to draw a lot of current.

Well, if that's true then the 85 GM AF is not for me!
You guys keep forgetting this lens is supposed to serve photographers and videographers, we get improved mf and the declicked aperture option, af noise has to be very low, perhaps not completely silent but the sound this lens produces, based on early reports, certainly disqualifies it as a video tool. (:
here is the correct quote, this guy claims he received his copy a couple days ago, silent focus and faster then the batis http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/57583334

So now we have 3 versions of the 85 GM!?
Version Unicorn. Fast and silent AF.
Version Guy. Defect coffee grinder AF.
Version Fred/Normal. Slowish, a bit noisy AF.
That is both funny and stressful. Mostly stressful.
Perception is everything. Aside from a few 'coffee grinder' bad apples, if we bring them all together, they could be identical regarding AF noise and speed.
I'm coming from EF 85/1.2L II, so this lens is light and AF is fast enough. I'm not returning mine since it's also perfectly centered.

I'm sure you're right, but I sure as heck would like that Version Unicorn nonetheless!

lol, yes, it's all relative, I remember the nightmares with my 85mm 1.2

I have the most recent updated firmware versions that I downloaded prior to the lens being mounted (V. 3.01 and .01). I am fairly new to Sony.
For those that have been using Sony, do you think the AF issue can be addressed in another firmware update if 3.01 somehow missed the focus hunting and motor noise problems? Of course, there are the Unicorns, so just more conjuring at this point on my part.
The power of persuasion. Did you see how the crowd got influenced to believe they are actually about the same weight!!!
If you watch the actual video, it's scary.

That scares me.
.if Jason said so..then it must be true. Same thing with LOTS of people start buying the Rotolight NEO On-Camera LED after watching his video. I've been using that light for couple years and heck no..it doesn't work the way he said..but if Jason said it is good, it must be good.
