It looks like you stayed in Cox Bay? The best place on the planet that I've been to. #9 is my favourite.

Nicely done!

Regards.....Pete

Thanks Pete. #9 was taken on Chesterman Beach and features yours truly. We actually stayed on the East shore of the peninsula, overlooking the mudflats. It was magical! #8 was the place we stayed and #7 was our view each morning (if the sun popped out, that is).

I did a repeat of the nighttime astronomical voyage right after the Mayday, but I wasn't as lucky as the last time. Mostly the successful photos were just repeats of what I have achieved back then - and that was my first attempt at any astro work - but most of the time I was floundering for some reason. Here's the few shots that passed the chopping block.

Exposure time: 45 minutes. And... I overexposed! There's just about no guessing what the exposure is going to be like when I'm shooting Bulb! If you have any hints I'd be glad to listen.

The nights are getting visibly shorter and less dark. Actually, the Mayday outing was a sort of a "closure" for the amateur astronomers I was hanging out with, because then, the White nights are starting and it's not dark enough to observe the fainter stars.

Been out looking for wildlife, found these two running around in a field last night. Calf should be nearly a year old now I think.

More photos from Florence. I'm really coming to an end here....

Santa Maria del Fiore at dawn from the so called "Piazza del Duomo". Not much of a Piazza there if you ask me. The place is really crammed. Plus the Baptistery (visible on the right side), was undergoing reconstruction, so this was really the only possible spot. A pano of 6 or 7 vertical photos taken with 16-35 L II, merged and straightened in LR.

The arcade at Basilica di Santa Croce monastery.

Shadowplay. Giotto Campanile.

An alternate panoramic take of the morning view of Florence that I posted as the very first photo from this trip. The angle is slightly different and I guess not that many people stop by on the spot I took it from. 5 vertical photos made with 70-200L.

My advice? Don't shoot it on one take Take several exposures instead and combine them later in Photoshop. In winter/cold weather, 5 minute incremental exposures work best for me on 1D IV. The noise levels will be much lower, you can control your output better and if you overexpose, it's a bit easier to correct.

Thank you. They were taken at the west and north coast of Svalbard. The shy bear was taken at these coordinates.

Well, this is some completely unknown territory for me now. Maybe in a few days I'll have a chance to do something along these lines because me & my wife are going to Kyrgyzstan in less than 24 hours, on a National Geographic affiliated photo trip to boot.

In the meanwhile, here's a few more shots from the last few days...

The biking season has commenced! For some reason, I wanted to do some kind of "left field" photos during the opening. So I got this (and some more along these lines): ISO 50, f/22, 1/10 second handheld at 90mm... the whole nine yards.

The icebreaker fest is a rather new (established in 2014) but popular entertainment, held every year in the first days of May. This city is a place where many such ships dwell, and every autumn/winter we're seeing some of them around the city, but this event was a chance to see several at once and, with a lot of patience, go aboard (I never had the time / patience to wait in the line for hours... the queues are atrociously long every year!)

More from the lake. Wish the geese and goslings would hang out on the other side of the lake, where there are flowers and prettier backgrounds!
