Sometimes being in the right place at the right time is what street work is all about. I was very fortunate. It seems to me though the more I get out the luckier I get.
If you turn left on a street you see nothing. You turn right and you can't take the camera from your eye. Thats what i love about the streets. It's not controlled or over thought and over worked. It's like a really good live jazz performance, it's spontaneous and sometimes flawed but always real and live. And when it hits it really hits. It does test all of your skills. Being able to see something worthy in a fraction of a second and then having the technical skill to capture that moment tests everything you have ever learned.
My day job I am usually shooting in very controlled environments and time is $$$ so the last thing I want when I shoot for me is those kind of situations.
