I have both the 80-400mm and the 200-500mm and the performance and image quality of the 80-400mm is definitely superior but it is also 400mm at most versus 500mm and it cost me $1000 more than the 200-500mm lens so it is not an apples to apples comparison.

You're the first (and only?) that says the 80-400 "is definitely superior" to the 200-500.

the old original 100-400 push pull makes BIF shots stupid easy ... and keeps on shining !

on a five (5) year old camera !
