canon 6d always reads sd memory card when closing card door: i get a red blinkinh light for a few seconds every time i open/close the card door.

1) why? my 70d doesnot do this.
2) can i turn off this "feature"?

It's the same for all of my cameras. It's like a visual heart beat.

You can turn it off by removing the battery before closing the card door.

haha: but then canon should pay for the extra labor that takes...really..no way to turn off?

No, no way. The camera detects the card as soon as you close the door, even if the camera is turned off.

As stated it's normal . what's more of a puzzle is why you 70D doesn't do it

Yes, it is normal behavior of all Canon DSLR bodies. The red light briefly flashes when you insert a memory card.

Why do you want to turn it off? I tells you that the card has been successfully inserted. It does not effect anything else on the camera. Better to have the light blink a few times when the door is closed than find the card is not recording when the first shot is taken out on a job.

Both my 70D and 6D give the SD door closed/SD in the slot red light blink. Perhaps a wee bit of finger goo is blocking the red light on the OP's 70D?

The camera's computer takes a second or two to scan the card so that later when you review images it does not at that time take a second or two to scan the card.

Frankly, I find that a useful feature. (no sneer quotes needed

)
