If it was cropped to roughly square then I would be looking at a good shot with lots of action, however, with presentation as it is then I feel as if I could just scramble down that slope and be right in the image amongst the action, much more dramatic this way.
My tuppence worth
PS I love wide...
Thank you!
I also wanted to do something totally different (point of view - perspective) from this popular location which the 11mm afforded me.

ah, handheld WITH the LT makes more sense now
Great shot Mark,
As to Floris, where is he? Really miss viewing his work, you should get him back on here!
If I remember correctly he was doing a thesis on the flight limitations of a bumble bee

Ever try the LT?
"...totally different..." Yes! YES! Don't go changin'! Sorry, had to pitch in with an atta-boy. Little ironic how comments historically deter "iconic" images, but then when someone mixes it up, folks seem to want to go back in the (horiz.) box, so to speak. It's all good discussion though, no worries, but wide minds think alike.
P.S. - I gotta go get me an LT finally. Thx for the reminder.

Busy guy! I miss him here too. I communicated with him today and He is doing well. I also encouraged him to maybe post here once in a while. He is still very much occupied with his career... So we will see...

Beautiful shot! You really did a great job at capturing amazing lighting and conditions! I agree with you about the lens. My last two trips, despite having my other lenses, i kept the 11-24 on the 5dsR and looked for opportunities to use the lens.

Thank you. Awesome to hear there are other 11-24 lovers out there!

Thank you! One of those a few times in a lifetime moments... I am glad I came prepared! Also glad Kevin McNeal pointed out the radar projection that day.

I love it. 11mm looks perfect to me for this image.
Used it to shoot "High Voltage". Basically the one and only time I used it. Was looking for it for this trip and it's hiding from me. Very useful tool!
Yo bro, awesome! Do you have the official "The Lightning Trigger" brand? That is the one I have and it never seems to miss. I'll be down in the SW from late July until November with the workshops and you may get on average a couple lightning storms a day the whole monsoon season! Last year was off the charts. If you can break from the galleries, maybe come out and shoot?
I love this shot, and have tried ever so many times at this very location to get light like you captured here. I love it, Mark.
But after reading most of the posts, I got curious as to whether you elevated differently for other captures to see how the butte top helped or hurt when not aligned exactly with the horizon. I'm not saying I would have changed it, but just curious if you tried.
