I've been chasing a sunrise like this for a long time here in Banff, finally got one this past weekend. It was quite a muted morning until out of nowhere a single beam of light broke through and then almost instantly the sky lit on fire. Amazing to witness!
Awesome Erik! I told myself that I must avoid Vermillion (and Two Jack, and Minnewanka, and..) but this photo may have changed my mind. Perhaps Friday I will venture out there again...
I know how you feel Gary, so very overdone... But for a reason I guess, incredible opportunities there. Good luck friend. Gary Clennan wrote:

Wow! This had to been a sight to see. #1gets my vote. This is coming from a laptop view but I think the sky could benefit from some more tweaking - maybe backing off the orange luminance.

So in early December the lakes are not frozen completely? I think the look of this is really cool, and something to remember for a future visit.

Hey Jim, if you head o the far end of the lakes there is an area that is hotspring fed, usually has some open water there to shoot around! Careful though the ice isn't thick... Had a friend go through the same morning we took these.
