I've been chasing a sunrise like this for a long time here in Banff, finally got one this past weekend. It was quite a muted morning until out of nowhere a single beam of light broke through and then almost instantly the sky lit on fire. Amazing to witness!

Hi Erik,

What an out of this world sunrise! Shows that perseverance pays off. Sweet colors and beams are fantastic. #1 is my favorite of the two.

I like 1 best but 2 is nice too. Great colors and processing.

Vermillion is a great spot for the beams.

Awesome Erik! I told myself that I must avoid Vermillion (and Two Jack, and Minnewanka, and..) but this photo may have changed my mind.

Perhaps Friday I will venture out there again...

This is definitely a shot to look back at again.

So in early December the lakes are not frozen completely? I think the look of this is really cool, and something to remember for a future visit.

Wow! This had to been a sight to see. #1gets my vote. This is coming from a laptop view but I think the sky could benefit from some more tweaking - maybe backing off the orange luminance.

Hey Jim, if you head o the far end of the lakes there is an area that is hotspring fed, usually has some open water there to shoot around! Careful though the ice isn't thick... Had a friend go through the same morning we took these.
