Was that Hyena injured in some way either before or after this altercation? I would be very interested as to how it made out
Apart from a few bites/scratches the hyena was ok, it remained sat in the water until the wild dogs became bored with it all and gave up to hunt elsewhere.

I loved it...was this a young hyena, he seemed small in relation to the dogs?
This was most likely an adult male, in a society where the female is dominant they hang on the periphery of the clan and often find themselves in these battles with other predators.

Who won?
The answer is in my storyline
the wild dog started to wear it down by continually biting his rear and it became a battle of attrition and "backs to the wall", eventually the hyena thought it was better taking his chances with the gaping jaws of a hippo and sat it out in the water. Wild dog have an inherent fear of water if they know crocs are closeby, so they kept their distance and eventually got bored with it all and moved off to find other prey
