If we can't get full panoramas, the beauty of the Pro-1000 will be severely diminished. Feel free to send an opinion to Canon's PR department ([email protected]).
It is worse than that. Very sad to not be able to get a 16" standard sized print out of a 17" printer.
It's that the standard 16" wide print on most cameras (without cropping) is 16x24". The PRO-1000 has a 22" length limit that can't be overridden. Therefore, no 16x24 prints. It is a 100% deal breaker for me, and I prefer Canon printers. I'm not in the market for a larger printer at the moment, but I could see one in the next couple years. I hope this is figured out by then.
In a review by Imaging Resource, they were able to get a 23" length print. For me 24" would be the absolute minimum, but would prefer longer for panos. Hard to understand why they would have that limitation as it shouldn't add cost to the product.
no one else can either. Could be the usual Japanese corporate overly cautious mentality at work.
Since this printer is aimed directly at prosumer P800 buyers and not the usual home printers like the lower PRO printers which they are basically giving away (well, on the -100 at least and that goes to show you how much profit they are actually making on the -10 and maybe even the -1), my hope/hunch is that it will take them a couple of quarters to see insufficient sales and make the change cause that's a hard stop unless you buy Printfab or other RIP-y software. Someone should 3D print up a set of roll paper adapters and sell it
I know there are two users on luminous landscapes with this printer that have said they have been able to print at 17x25. I own the printer and am waiting on some 17x25 stock and will test as well. Other than that, I cannot say enough good things about the printer. Easy setup, profiles have been spot on for both canon and non-canon paper. And quality is beyond my expectations.
Well, tomorrow is the 31st and I'm still having a bit of a tough time with the printer decision. I did note that the comments made on LuLa about being able to print 25" long prints on the PRO-1000 have since been retracted by at least one poster over there, and couldn't locate anything else that would lead me to believe otherwise. If I had the room, budget, and was planning on using it like it should be used, I might have opted for an iPF64xx, but I really can't justify such a purchase at this point in time.
Both the PRO-1000 and the P800 have their pluses and minuses, but at this juncture I think I'm going to push the P800 button in the morning before the rebates expire.
Just read over on Lula that Canon engineers are looking at the possibility of extending the print length of the Pro-1000. If they can do it, the functionality will be added via a driver update.
