icon, smi-con.
It's a great shot and a wonderful show of nature.
Congratulations.

David

david-

Really cool scene Seann, great light! Can't beat Yosemite in the snow!

yosemite rocks almost any time!

Congratulations on capturing such a magical moment for an iconic place. I love both of them and truly magical!

SExplorer-
thank you. i can still hardly believe my luck.

Beautiful shots! How did you make everything purplish?

wsps1-
it was nothing intentional. i sometimes get a color cast like that when i use two filtersparticular together. in this case i had a lee .9 gnd and a schnieder 1.2 nd. for what it's worth, i used the same combination on both images and they were 8 minutes apart. so, your guess is as good as mine.

First one is stunning. I'd clone out the white puff on the bottom edge though.

scott-
thanks for the kind words and, even more, for the suggestion. i'll adjust the crop.

that is just insanely killer...just confirms I have to go back when there is snow...I love them both, but the orange glow on the water being stronger wins it for me...and I like the wide orientation of that one more.

Question...how hard is it to get around there when there is snow? 4 wheel drive I am sure is a must...just curious.

travis-
thanks so much. it was YOUR post that inspired me to go to the valley! i used to go the the valley quite a bit and i always go up the river on 140 because it never closes (that i know of) and i've never had to use chains. i have never had a 4wd or chains, but it was kinda spooky going to tunnel view last week, as there was black ice. my next car will be awd.

This is the holy grail shot for me as well. I haven't gotten it yet. Surprisingly hard to get haha. The first time I saw this light band was also a winter shot from Michael Frye and ever since I've tried to chase type of light and with snow. It's a pretty tough combo haha. I'm glad you were able to see this and capture it!

Jason

jason-
i wish you luck in your quest! i just got lucky with the timing. i went when i could and it happened to be the right combination of conditions. i'm trying to talk a buddy into going in feb for horsetail falls. i'll bet it was doing its thing when i taking these shots. it was flowing and i looked at one of the shots- the light was hitting it. it may have been the wrong angle, though.

They are both...AWESOME but for me the amount of sky in #2 really does it for me..just my 2 cents.

tree-
thank you. i chose the second one because i thought the sky had more drama. i have another shot with the red light and better color in the sky, but the framing is a little tighter. in the end, i went with bigger sky.

Very nice scene captured. However, the PP is too harsh.
Being really involved with saturation, you lost details in bright areas.

sasha-
thanks. believe it or not, i really don't do much processing because, what little i do, takes place on an uncalibrated laptop. i just looked and i moved the saturation slider to +7 on the first one and left it at zero on the second one. if the scene looks unnatural, well.....it kinda was. as far as lost details, that may be a jpeg thing. or, maybe i have low expetcations. if, it's the latter, please don't tell me!
