I'm guessing that once you looked at this you didn't even consider converting to B&W.

Just excellent, Scott. This will give pleasure to friends and family for years. What a happy kid. You are blessed. "Candid"? Looks posed. Not a criticism, just admiring the boy's poise and smile. He loves his grandpa.

Definitely a candid. I can tell because the child is looking at the camera. If it was posed, they would be looking somewhere else, crying, or making a silly face.
Thanks to each and everyone commenting. Not only am I a proud grandpa, but this is by far the best portrait of a family member I have shot. Nice to have that validated as well.
I hope to be able to offer some other high quality images and eventually be able to usefully help others with the process
Natural light from a large window, sunny day, unposed. My grandson is not only photogenic, he will also glance over at me and the camera if I ask. Then I show him the image on the back of the camera sometimes, but he really doesn't care. He is a kid!
