Outstanding massive set here...looks like you had quite a time, and some long days, with the Eagles. Beautiful country and images.

Jim

Thanks very much, Jim. I was there for a week, which might sound like a lot, but with the short daylight hours and winter weather, only equated to about 25 hours or so shooting. The experience, though, was everything I had hoped for!

Images like these is why Haines is on my bucket list. Fantastic photo's with great lighting and composition.

What time pf year where ypu there and how did you get there?

Thanks, Gary. There is a Bald Eagle Festival in Haines every November with a lot of activities including photo workshops. I suppose that's not a bad time to visit. You can get to Haines via ferry from Juneau.

I really enjoyed the mix of portraits, flight and "eagle-scales." As a love or minimalism in nature photography, my favorites in your set are numbers 8, 12 & 22.

Bravo!

Thanks, Bruce! Glad you enjoyed the variety of images. This has to be one of the most perfect settings to photograph bald eagles.

I know it has been said before but I just wanted to commend you on the great photographs. Thanks for sharing them with us. I know it must not have been easy with the cold weather but I bet it was fun.
Thanks again for sharing

Thanks, Ed! You're right, it was a lot of fun! Cold weather was not much of an issue, and it might have been better from a photography perspective if it had been colder!

I'd love to hear some details about the trip, how to get to this magical place, and your overall travel experience. I haven't been to Alaska yet, but am going to be planning a trip in the next year or so, and I don't know where to go.

By the way, your pictures are just breathtaking...both closeups as well as landscapes. Amazing, thanks for sharing.

Thanks a lot! Seeing the eagles in Haines was a memorable experience – hope you get the opportunity as well!

Thank you! Living on the east coast away at sea level, I would have to say that I was totally in awe of the mountain scenery! Some days, the cloud cover was so thick and low that you couldn't even see the mountains!

the landscape images are stunning; who would have thought that a wider angle on a trip like yours would be the choice lens

Thanks, John. The arrangements were actually not as expensive as you might imagine. I did get a really good deal on the airfare, though. PM me if you would like details.

As far as traveling with the gear, I didn't have any issues at all with Delta. I put the tripod and head in checked luggage, and carried on the following: 2 1DX, 7D2, 11-24, 24-70, 100-400, 200-400, 800, chargers, batteries, and 15" laptop. Lens hoods packed in check in. I wrap each item in neoprene so I don't need dividers in the bag. I put the two long lenses

Both Delta and Alaska Air have regular flights through Seattle to Juneau and it you stay the night in Juneau you can take the ferry to Haines for $75. I find roundtrip fares from San Jose, CA to Juneau for less than $450 on Alaska Air. With full size planes there are larger overhead bins so easier to manage a large backpack with large lenses.
