Today would have been her 16th birthday . We sadly said good by to her two weeks ago Monday .
Zena came to live with us when she was only three .
Sometimes you just don't know when its time . Such a difficult decision . You often wonder if you are just being selfish or if you should let go ........
I know so many of you have been through this very situation . We have been fortunate to have had Labs since 1980 and this is never easy.
She was such a sweetheart and we all are going to miss her dearly .
Zena & Tony at Ray's pond
After a couple of swimming lessons with Molly .. She still was just getting it :)
I feel your pain. We went through the same thing 3 weeks ago with that guy to the left. A horrible choice to have to make but as painful as it is you know in your heart it's the right thing to do for them.
I am saddened for your loss Rich as I too know what a great companion our dogs are to us. Doesn't seem that long ago that I lost my 'Bailey' girl but after time all the good memories are still with me. I didn't want to let go, one of the worst losses I have ever had as she was really special to me.
I hope you find strength in another 4-legged companion, don't leave a whole in your heart and be without.
Take care buddy

Hang in there...
Greg,
Thank you and you as well . All they ever want is to be acknowledged and loved ...

Karl,
Thank you .. You are correct as we remember all of the good times and memories . All they want to do is to give unconditional love .They are just not given enough time here with us .
Sorry for you loss Rich. Sometimes losing a pet is more painful than some people can imagine....I am sure she gave you many years of joy and like all labs I am sure she was a PITA at times like mine but we love them anyways!

Scott,
And you are correct ... they all can be knuckle heads at times ..... Thats why we love them
She was an beautiful girl and you where so lucky to have her in your life so long, all too often they go too soon. I'm sorry for your loss.
I just love how much impact dogs has on our lives, mine saved me from serious depression for example. Can't thank her enough for that. Not that she is complaining.
After so great time together and for so long (even though it is not long enough I know) it is time to enjoy and thank for all the memories you created together. Those memories are everlasting.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Labs are truly the BEST friend one could ever hope for. We had to say goodbye to our 18 yr old Sambo a year ago and I still miss her immensely. I will never have another Lab again because I simply can't invite that kind of pain into my heart again.
You said goodbye at the correct time. Know that in your heart and remember that first soggy wet kiss she gave you forever.
I know just how you feel. I think Lighthound sums it up very well. I have a yellow lab (7 yrs old) that looks a lot like 'Tony' in your pic. Some people would never understand, but I feel my lab is the best friend I ever had, probably ever will have.

RIP Zena " Beansie"
Thank you Stefan , I really appreciate your thoughts and words. There are many people who unfortunately do not have the pleasure of this kind of companion or their friendship . For some this may be tough to understand .
They truly are very much part of our families
