GregI used just a simple two flashes shoot through white umbrella positioned at about 35-45° angle on both sides and pointed little bit down on them. The background was positioned as far from them as possible to get the background as dark as possible in the space (not so big living room). Was little bit difficult to position the lights to minimize the light spill on the background. The dogs where put on a table with black/dark cloth (later with the white fake "fur") to make it easier for me to photograph them.
What a superb set! I now have a black puppy, so you've given me something to strive for in my own work. Unfortunately his eyes aren't such a pretty brown, but with photoshop anything is possible.
Wolfeye, congrats on your puppy. Black dogs are not the easiest subjects, specially when in action, but still very doable with some work and extra effort.
