The unconventional composition enhances the story. The photo would be weaker if cropped.
This is a very powerful image. I think it speaks volumes of our narcissism and self-absorption. This indictment is strengthened by the homeless man's posture and the coy expression on the girl.
This is one of the best in your impressive body of work.

Let's not forget the leading lines. The guy sitting is conveniently placed in a square with both the crosswalk and sidewalk lines leading us directly to him. poor guy
Wow. Honestly I'm not usually all that into street photography but then along comes an image like this that has so much emotion across the spectrum squashed into a single frame. Well-seen and well-captured.
