I was going to take a few more of my kids, but I'm glad I didn't, the waves were crazy!
What's interesting (for me) is that this photo reminds me not so much of this instance, but of the fact that this wa re-enacted a few minutes later but with a whole bunch of birds flying around. I was going to get my phone again (this wa taken with an iphone) but I had already decided that I wasn't going to take any more photos. So I didn't. And I was very proud of myself for that
I could look at this image for a long, long time. So many good things about it, including that you couldn't pose the sky and the ocean but you nailed the shot anyway, as far as I'm concerned. Great work.
I too love this image. This kind of captures how I feel about fatherhood. I love my boy, I want him to have fun, but man, it's a big ocean of trouble out there. All the while, the boy is oblivious and having a great time. Awesome shot!
Thanks David! I personally love how turbulent the ocean looks (because it was) contrasted with the timidity and frailness of childhood. And the bravery to overcome that.
Bcguy, yes!! It IS a big ocean and it's scary as heck, especially whe. I bring more kids...
The smallness of the boy against the immensity of the ocean is a perfect metaphor of a child leaving the womb and entering the world for the very first time. All the turbulent viciousness of life lay ahead of him on the journey to manhood.
Maybe it's the big white border around the image, but this really reminds me of when I shot b/w film and did my own processing. Something about the scene, the grain, the image, the white border…. I can almost smell the stop bath.
Chris, I feel like every photo looks better with a border, makes it look more important, is if it deserves its own matte and frame. I was shooting film for a while and it's helped me a lot with editing digital.
