While the Eastern Sierra area in California is truly a photographers paradise, after so many years of visiting, it's increasingly difficult to find new and exciting subjects. For me, I've grown tired of the thin and fractal nature of most of the aspen trees in the area. I've been jealous of the Colorado shooters and their nice straight-trunked tall aspens. But I recently ran across a grove that has a small bit of what I was after, up in the White Mountains. This scene is way down a 4x4 trial off the Crooked Creek Road and actually in the end of Cottonwood Basin towards Nevada. I was happy being with this family of aspen for a couple of days of pure solitude.
Looking at this image is pure bliss too. What a great find!
I know what you are saying about the Aspen in the Eastern Sierra, and that's one of the reasons I have spent much more time in Colorado the last few falls. So it's really nice that you found some cool Aspen trunks here in California.
So nice to see you coming out of the lurk! You are one of the few people who know just where this grove is. We were there together! Take care, my friend.
Yes, I knew immediately where you were talking about. I just hope that "road" hasn't deteriorated since we were last there. Some spots were a bit dicey.
