I just upgraded to 0.45 and my 135L seems worse than with 0.44. With 0.44 the center box was pretty fast in low light and the outside boxes were no go. Now even center box in small or medium size mode is taking a lot time to settle and not settling each time. Switching to center mode make af much better.
my previously flying 85 1.8 EF on 0.44 seems slower too with 0.45...
Just got back from a two-week trip with the A7R Mark II. I have the Metabones IV (v.0.44 at the time) and four Canon lenses:
EF 16-35mm f4L IS - AF works well at all focal lengths
EF 24-70mm f4L IS - AF works well at all focal lengths
EF 70-300mm f4-5.6L IS - AF works well at focal lengths up to about 200mm; beyond that AF is slow and frequently mis-focuses (sadly, lots of very slightly OOF images, and the A7R2 rear LCD isn't quite sharp enough to show this in the field). This lens is stellar on my 5D Mark III and 5DsR.
EF 100mm f2.8L - AF works reasonably well, albeit slowly, when it works, but the adapter frequently fails to communicate with the lens (brand new lens, purchased for the trip, no issues on my Canon bodies)
I updated the Metabones to firmware v.0.45, and the 70-300L IS does seem to focus a bit better - although it is now also slower.
Just for the sake of curiosity, I tried an old 50mm f1.8 lens (first version, with metal mount, circa 1987), and it actually seems to focus better on the A7R II than it does on my Canon bodies... a very pleasant surprise.
Metabones does not support video autofocus with canon lenses on a7 series. Techart claims it does but it fails people Tried. U need native e lenses to have af during video on a7r2 and other a7 cameras 3catsinky wrote:
anyone tried to do any focusing with the Canon lenses for video? I am seriously considering dumping my 5d3. I am in love with shooting with an EVF.

It just seems that shorter FL's are much more friendly to the Sony than longer ones. Not sure I understand the electro/optical/mechanical/programming reasons for this ... but, I can't help but think there is a rational reason for this behavior, inherent to the design @ which bodes better for shorter, not so much for longer.
Well it kind of makes sense. Less big elements to push around and focusing with shorter lenses is less demanding on the AF motors. Not as long a focus throw like the teles

Is there a way to go back to previous firmware?
Minus the speed issue, the 85 f1.8 is working OK now? I know originally it didn't work at all.

Yep everything is slower with 0.45. Hopefully metabones will get enough feedback and fix it with next firmware
Yup, I had enough of 0.45. I went back to 0.44 and AF is better again.

Just following up, do the 500/600 II actually work OK? It seems the long end of the 100-400 II really doesn't work so assuming it's focal length related, I can't see how these lenses would be "good."

So what's the consensus right now for the best adapter to work with the Sigma Art?
Can't you send in the lens to Sigma to put on a native mount or is the E mount not included in this program?
edit: I guess it would only be A mount for use with the la3 or 4.

Finally updated my metabones iv to the latest firmware, and AF now works with all of my third party lenses - sigma 12-24, tamron 28-75 and 70-300, even a relatively old sigma 70-200 f/2.8! It's not lightning fast with most of these, especially going from near to far or vice versa, but seems more than acceptable for non-sports shooting, and given that it usually took several seconds (if it worked at all) before, it's a huge improvement. Haven't had a chance to check accuracy yet, just speed.

I can also confirm very good AF with the sigma 24 art. I feel like with this update I have the functionality I originally hoped for (but didn't get) when I ordered my a7rii and metabones- I was replacing an old 5d mark II and didn't want to/wasn't able to replace my Canon and Canon mount lenses.

OK so here's the question. Let's say I was shooting portraits - non action - with a Canon 85 1.2 II and a 24-70 f2.8 in light equivalent to 1/30 @ ISO3200. Can I expect the AF to work well? Mostly points near the center. Accurately is more important than speed....
I'm debating if I need a Canon 5ds for this type of thing or the A7rII would do the trick.
