Will:
Thanks for the compliment, but they're no match to yours. They were just my favorites out of 600+ shots. On technical merits my shots are getting better, some from practice, some from gear improvements, but I still have a long way to go on the art of photography. It will take time to develop an eye like you have for the light and to anticipate where to be (at what instant) to get an interesting shot. I'm still one of those gearheads that fires away, thinking more about achieving a sharp focus than on what the topical focus of the photo is. Maybe in another 10,000 photos or so...

Finally got to shoot some pix today and I noticed that the framing moves after a shot with VR on - is that normal? I am coming from a 300 f/4 AFS so I have not used VR before.

Sometimes the VR will jump especially if shooting a quick sequence of shots. I'm not sure this is what you are experiencing.

Not too clear on your explanation. You should always notice the image in your viewfinder "jump" each time the VR engages and dis-engages. The greater the focal-length of the lens, the more noticeable the jump.
You will see the same effect when using binoculars with image-stabilization.

Here are some shots with the Nikon 200-500 on the D610 with the 1.4 TCII. I have found that the lens is kind of soft wide open at f/8 with the TC but sharpens up nicely at f/9.
