Howard's pics make the lens shine, i would like to know it's shooting technic or pp skills
The PP skills here have very little to do with that shot. It's about knowing about your subject, distance and technique. All 3 he clearly excels at. I suspect the SOOC is very similar to what we see here.

Agree with many commentators heaping praise to Howard. This particular capture requires considerable photo skills, patience, bird knowledge and the right equipment. One other thing that strikes me is how extremely low the camera and lens must have been to get this angle. The kingfisher appears above the water horizon which makes this image even more special. Almost as if Howard was submerged in the water with the camera and lens just above the surface. Amazing.

I took the 200-500 with TC-14e iii. Probably not the ideal subject for the lens but since it was there The picture is nothing but I am rather happy with the resolution of the lens, given the circumstance. The picture was shot in RAW and just resized in PS for posting otherwise no other adjustment. With D810 handheld.

Agreed.
But I'd also say that the camera probably had a considerable say in this one. If it were me I'd be shooting at the full 11fps the D4s is capable of ... and to capture a shot like that you will need those 11 fps or be one lucky SOB
Howard ?
yep D4s can roll off some shots, I have some blurred ones too!

Heres a couple more, some High ISO.
Sparrow hawk in the rain.
Diving Kingfisher
I have PP them as I normally do.
The Kingfisher background has been run through noise removal twice, adjusted the colours and contrast. You read that right ISO 36204 = no light.
This lens will work for me, thanks Nikon for this one.

I posted these in the Nature forum a few days ago but thought it might be helpful to share here in the Nikon forum. These are images of a Black-Crowned Night Heron from a marsh on the Windward side of Oahu. Kind of gives you an idea of the focus and tracking ability of the lens on a D810. All images handheld at 500mm. Still in awe of Howard's beautiful images.

Howard and Joe,
Your pic's are blowing me away! I'm using a 200-400VR-1 and have been wondering if the 200-500mm could work as my one wildlife lens... The weight savings and hand-holdability on a mobile platform (canoe/kayak) seems so appealing...

Shots taken on different days, same perch.
Light was better on the 200-400 day. Not same focal length etc but hey ho,
Both lenses deliver,
Decision decisions, good ones to have though, good luck😊

Joining the club! I just saw Amazon has this lens in stock and I could not resist. Placed the order and expecting it to be delivered tomorrow. Soon, I will be putting up my Tammy for sale..

Well I bought mine from the downtown B&M that I usually frequent for any new Nikon lenses I buy. I pay a tad more than buying on-line but they have always been decent to me (trying, exchanging one which was a little soft - IMO, etc.).
US$1,358 it cost me over here (Shanghai), I could have saved UD$65 buying on-line but I prefer to check in person at the time of purchase.
Unfortunately over here we only get a 1 year domestic guarantee from Nikon. Tight gits.
Seemed very sharp indeed, handheld at 25m indoors, 1/500, f5.6 and 3,600 ISO. VR On. Way better than I expected so I'll try and get out with it this weekend - weather's awful though, pouring down.

After waiting for 2 months from Amazon UK I decided to cancel my pre-order and go with another seller. The other seller was still cheaper than Amazon and it arrived in 3 days.
First impressions:
-For me its huge, its a beast!
-The weight is heavy, but I don't think it'll take long to get used to it.
-IS is great!
-Focus isn't super fast, but once at the correct distance its pretty snappy.
-Image quality on the back of the D800 looks to be pretty nice too, but might need to play with some settings to see if I can increase this, will also need to have a look on the computer too.
Hopefully I'll be able to get out this weekend and try it out.

HowardK: Your Kingfisher shots are stunning, really well captured and with some crazy ISO!
Is it me or does the Sparrow Hawk have a slight magenta cast to it? I think I noticed more on the tree than the bird. Its still a stonking shot though! :-)
