Thanks a lot, Smitty! If you wanna shoot one day, gimmie a yell.
I have lots of long(er) glass you can play with.
Thanks Will for that gracious offer. I'll have to find time to make my way down there one day, and I'll gladly buy you a beer or two (out in Edgewood now but still working with the Feds, lots of work and little play time!)

Well some have said that this lens has been used to shoot sports before but I don't believe it. It's way too heavy.
Well since you have started posting on FM, you have lost all credibility. You say this lens is only good for BIF, when you just have to look through this thread to see a hundred or more shots that are NOT of BIF's.
And now you say you don't believe that it has been used to shoot sports. Supposedly because it is too heavy.
Once again it sounds like you don't know what you are talking about. Try doing a Google search for "sports photos with 200-500".

I previously owned the Canon 600mm II, which was much lighter than Version I. While I know Petkal and others can shoot it handheld, I barely could for ten seconds here and there. I sold it in favor of the 500mm II, which was also difficult for me to handhold.
As I said, I received the 200-500 only today. My impression is that it’s a lightweight in comparison to a big prime and easily handholdable. Can I hold it perfectly steady? No, but it’s a pleasure in comparison.

Finally stopped raining cats and dogs so got outside in backyard with the D850 and 200-500 that I received in the mail from Allen's Camera yesterday. I've dealt with B&H and Adorama for over 30 years and I must say, with absolutely zero connection to any of them, Allen's Camera is incredible. I hate to let the cat out of the bag as I'd like to keep the secret to myself, but if you haven't shopped them, give it a try. You will not be disappointed. Just don't get in line in front of me for new gear.
It may have stopped raining cats, but dogs? My lovable knucklehead going after his ball:

Just some odds and ends recently taking.
Thanks for looking.

I really dig the iguana and spider photos!
So my copy of this lens arrived a week or two ago, and I took it out for its first fair-weather weekend shoot today. I'll probably post some more later, but the following two were a couple highlights for me.
First was a group of ducks taking off right before I called it quits for the day:
And on my way out, someone pointed out a red-tailed hawk in a distant tree, and a recently-dispatched rabbit it had hung from a lower branch (for safe-keeping?)
