Not crazy about the male hawk's facing away from the sun, but a good test of how the lens handles not so great light. I liked the wing extension so I kept it. Generous Gaussian blur applied to background (my usual way around the lack of f/4: cheap lens equals more time spent playing with PS brushes.)

were you using af-c 9 pts?
and one question to everybody, i can't afford a D500 but i may buy a TC but which one?
Appreciate it. I use Group AF 90% of the time. D500 doesn't have 9 pt...rather 25 but
I'll use center point if something's in my way. As for TC's, I never use 'em on slow zooms.
My D810 also has Group AF, but it's MUCH better on the D500...I use 9 with IT quite often.

Nice thing about the 200-500 is that with the excellent VR I can get very usable images (for me) on static subjects, hand held at 1/125 with enough light. ISO 400 here, f/7.1.
