So I took a look at my shots and this whole scenario from noticing the thunder head rising to the last bit of light on the cloud fading away was 10min. @ 9:17pm I took the first photo of the cloud when it was just starting to reach high enough into the sunlight blocked by clouds. My next shot was 9:20 when it rose further up and this is when I realized what could happen here. I was about 300-400 metres (yards) away from the spot I took the photo so I quickly packed up my gear and ran to the it. This photo was taken @ 9:24, just 4 min from the last. I was still out of breath while setting up but I didn't have to time to catch it. Just GO! I literally got my composition and everything lined up to take this pano. Right after this photo the light start to faded quickly. There was some lightning too I was hoping to capture so I kept shooting but by 9:27 all the light had faded away and it started to drizzle. Time to pack up and leave. Right time, right place and the experience for foresee what was about to happen. A photo opp that will be tough to come by again.
What can I say folks, thank you for the comments and thank you mother nature.

Scott, you've inspired me to create a new word to describe your landscape work:
ep•i•con•ic
adj.
1. In landscape photography, an iconic subject taken to epic proportions through a combination of luck and skill (see Scott Kroeker).
When I saw the first version, I'll admit it—I thought of Three Mile Island
Another easy vote, thanks for being there.
I like the way you think Bill! I like to create words as well. In this case I was at a loss for them though. So glad I was there and able to capture something I may never see again. It was so short lived with no time to take it in. I have almost none of my images printed, too costly, but this one is screaming acrylic and at least 40in wide.
This is one of the most amazing shots I have ever seen. Your use of the word "epic" was most appropriate. Congratulations for capturing this incredible shot and thank you for sharing it!
Wow Scott, you make it hard to choose, you have extremely well done shots here, however I'm going with the edited one. The rocks at the bottom really add to the shot for me.

They do look slightly HDRish to me. I would also try to eliminate what may not be, but looks like a halo from the right side ridge line. I'm just being a bit nit picky with the suggestions because these are worth perfection.
