I made it out to "my" lake yesterday morning for the first time this year. I should have been going all along... In a cost cutting move, the park no longer opens at sunrise - it's now 7AM. So I was there waiting for the gate to open at 7. The first area I normally see GBH at was barren, so I continued my paddle and found four at the second place I check. As a bonus, there was an adult BE on one of it's usual perches in the same area. The light was still OK, but the golden hour had long passed. Still, I managed to get a few keepers.
Exif attached, and as always, C&C appreciated ~ Ron
What a dramatic set Ron, I love them. Not your typical gbh shots, that's for sure. I hate when a park is closed and you can't get in for sunrise, been there done that and it sucks.

Marvelous work Ron

Thanx Tim. I just need to go at the right time of the year and 7AM will be before sunrise.

Ron- The black background is stunning, and really helps the GBH pop! Wonderful set of photos.
Thanx. I knew the conditions could be like that - it's happened before. I just need to have the herons there when the light is right.

Beauties Ron. Love the environment they are in and the dark backgrounds. The angle from the kayak(?) is great.

Thanx Geoff. This lake is 10 min from my house, and I can have my yak in the water in 20 min. I really need to go more often.
