Fujirumors posted leaked firmware 4 or so it seems. Eventually they decided to remove it from their site. I've been using it on XT1 for the last hour with following results (mostly exciting)
35/1.4 The most dramatic change. You know this slow lens. All of the sudden it is a whole new lens. Amazing! The lens just goes to focus and stays there, none of that rocking back and forth. The most dramatic change.
18-135. This lens slows down significantly in low light. I turned off lights and tried to focus at tele end on a toy with very little light in my bedroom. It focused much better than before, although the change is not as dramatic as 35/1.4, or at least that's what it seems like.
56/1.2 Zero changes in AF speed. Kind of disappointing after the first two.
That's it I don't have anymore Fuji native lenses to try. But I've been running around my house with 35/1.4 like a kid for the last hour!

they got from some french site it seems. on the other hand I would not be surprised if Fuji releases it quickly. Fuji XT10 is being released tomorrow. It does not make sense that owners of superior camera to XT10 have to wait another week to enjoy the same autofocus that a less camera XT10 has. I bet Fuji releases it quickly, like tomorrow or day after.

I also just updated my camera to the new 4.0 firmware. Here are my observations so far:
1. Exposure compensation works in manual mode finally
2. Face AF works a lot better now and there's eye AF now. I can't say whether it's Sony fast but it's a lot faster at acquiring faces.
3. Very minor boost in AF speed. Slightly faster focus acquisition in a dimly lit room.
4. Less AF hunting with 35mm f1.4 in bright light. It's actually faster at acquiring focus in good light. The FW hasn't made the 35mm f1.4 into the 23mm f1.4 (new Fuji primes actually get better with each iteration) but there's significant decrease in AF hunting and less chance of the lens racking back and forth to acquire focus. AF at time feels like using 23mm f1.4 as in it instantaneously focuses though there are still instances where it nosily racks back and forth like before.

Any other lenses you tried? my friend tried 55-200 and says no improvement in AF. 60/2.4 he says is better but I don't have 60 anymore

Ok, I just tried out the 27mm f2.8 pancake lens. There's a bit of improvement in bright conditions. It's not as large with the 35mm f1.4 but it's quite noticeable compared to 55-200. Sometimes there is instantaneous focus lock but other times there's a little hunting.

by memory I think 27 was somewhat slow to AF to begin with right?

Yes, that's correct. It's a bit more responsive now though.
I also tried the 23mm f1.4. There's a small improvement but not remotely as large as what I saw with the 27mm f2.8 and 35mm f1.4 though the 23mm f1.4 was one of the faster prime lenses to begin with.

How about the ability to focus on low contrast? I have trouble, especially with the 55-200, with it not wanting to focus on distant mountains or on clouds. Brightness isn't the problem - it seems to be a contrast limitation.

Just an FYI, but there appears to be a Beta version that somehow got leaked. So be careful!
Yes I read that somewhere this morning with reference that I have not seen to Fuji British twit of some sort. Here are my thoughts:
maybe it is beta. Even though the name of the file does not reflect it, and these things typically do. And there is no warning that you are using beta.
they released XT10 today at all major retailers in the US with same firmware 4.0. So they are saying it works on XT10 fine, they are comfortable releasing the new camera with this firmware (they could have pushed the release date if firmware had issues), but for some reason it does not on XT1, which is essentially 95% same camera?

This is something I wish they'd bring to the X100-series cameras, especially given how much of a hassle it is to change the ISO on the fly.
They do have it on the X100T and I use the feature a good bit. Not yet available on the S?

Unfortunately not : ( But it's heartening to know that it's at least in a future version. From what I've read, Fuji has said no more updates for the X100s...probably to avoid cutting into T sales.

I liked the 18-135 and obviously 35 after the update. However, I was disappointed with my 56/1.2 after work today trying to follow my 3-year-old on a playground. I got very little in focus despite trying every single mode and zone and wide focusing. The camera struggled just as it did with old firmware. I am going to try the 35 in the next few days in the same scenario. Shooting today with 56 again reminded me why I should still keep my DSLR. sadly.

When you say "still keep my DSLR ready", are you referring to just the 56mm? How does the X-T1 with 18-135mm cope with tracking the 3-year old compared to a consumer grade DSLR like the Canon 70D with a 18-135mm Canon lens?

Joe, I will test the Fuji 18-135 in the same way. I have a feeling that it will work much better since in Fuji new firmware video promoo they had 18-135 suggested for tracking. I will check it out. I've never owned 70D but I owned 7D which shares similar AF system with 70d. However, my child was not born yet when I had 7D so I can't tell you.
