Shrewd timing! I suppose there will be more than a handful of cancellations for the Canon 5Ds/5DsR.
I was thinking the same. But main reason why the 5Ds(R) is preordered is for the better function of AF with the EF lenses. If the A7R II also improved here that it allows much faster AF with EF lenses for example, then Sony clearly has another thing going for.

So, why no base iso 12 ? :-)
Anyway, wow ! Sony really put sensor development ahead...
what do you think about backlit sensor for DR and color accuracy at low ISO ? Could it be even better (in real world, not for numbers) ?
Actually surprised there isn't ISO 64 as base. That seemed to help the D810 DR. On the others, it's a waiting game. the A7II lost a little DR, perhaps due to the Electronic curtain?
Anyway, the august availability puts me in no rush. If I'm going out of town, it will be before the camera is available.
I'm very curious about ISO performance, if it's just as good or better than the current a7s then you may be right! Time will tell.

Looks great, I'm in. Wonder if they are trying to converge A7s and A7r line, or if there is a scary monster spec A7sII coming out. The video spec looks great and if there is very little moire/aliasing in Super-C (crop) 4K mode, then the A7sII will need to have a killer feature set to differentiate it for the video crowd. Hopefully rolling shutter is much better with the faster readout speeds.
With all the components this looks like a power hog. The NP-FW50 was OK in the NEX days but when I owned the A7 it drained batteries like no other recent camera and it seemed the battery was woefully underpowered. It makes me wonder what the shots-per-charge rating on this is going to be.
Other than that and the uncompressed RAW question mark, it looks amazing.

This is now a good time to catch even better deals for used A7Rs I guess....
Maybe ... but given the difference between used A7Rs now - $1100ish - and the price on this - $3200 - I'm not sure there will be a huge drop.
Assuming this is as good as it looks, I guess I am going try to relegate my canon bodies to wildlife only. Like I said, the issue is lenses. 16-35 55 and 70-200 may be it. Like I said earlier, I'd love a great native 24-70 2.8 OSS. I wonder what 8 lenses are coming.

I have the feeling there will be many who will upgrade - since the specs seem even better than originally rumored, this will increase the number of upgraders to this new camera and dumping the old body.

Maybe. Could the many phase detection AF points on the sensor play a role too? On the other hand, this is a brand new BSI sensor so it is going to be very interesting to see.
Perfectly timed for fall photography. I hate it when they release cameras in the dead of winter. Fall is the best time for photography - better get that Batis 25mm ASAP.
