Thanks Matt! I am glad you liked this one. I did look at the 20mm f1.8 as a lightweight alternative, and it tested out pretty nicely when I got my hands on one a few weeks ago. But for me, while I have a couple of primes, they are my emergency lenses... I know the prime time guys will be cringing to read that. But I prefer the flexibility of zooms with shooting landscapes. It's not always possible to get to a location to get the composition one wants with a prime, and a zoom can allow that.
Glad to hear you are testing out something new, it's always fun to get our hands on new gear and try things out.
No, I totally agree, especially with zoom corner sharpness these days being so amazing. Unless you NEED f/1.8, the lightweight zooms are really the way to go!

Very nicely done! I need to get back down to Little Corona. There's more interesting foreground than my latest Pelican Cove attempts. hehe.
Yep, you definitely need to get down to Little Corona if you haven't been there before. Lot's to shoot in a pretty small area. And while there are always some photographers there, it's also a large enough area to not be stepping on each others toes... usually...
I am glad you liked the shot!

Thanks Wayne, I am glad you liked it. The water was splashing very nicely that day.
Oh I've been there plenty of times. It's just been a while since my last visit. I've yet to capture that magical combination of light and composition though (it seems like every time I go, the skies are boring).
You nailed it here!
The sunsets these days stand pretty good chances of being impressive, in case anybody in the Orange County area is interested. I can't be free today, but it might be a gorgeous day to hit up the beach! Of course, clouds can completely vanish in just an hour, around here, so don't count any chickens until ~6 PM... ;-)

Yep, it could be good tonight! Tomorrow could be better. The only issue right now is the tide is going to be higher than i usually like covering most of the rocks and tide pools.
Morning, Jim! I love the choice of shutter speed and how dark and contrasty the water looks ... particularly along the bottom right. Some really excellent textures there. Composition-wise, I personally find it a bit awkward with the island of rock so far to the right. Seems a bit unbalanced for my tastes.
The composition and placement of the water line along with your choice of shutter speed combine to make this a really super nice capture!!
Beautiful work!
Greg
Great image Jim. Looks like pretty high tide and some nice sky conditions. Composition works real well. I've got to get back out to CdM, especially since I've got a new camera for over a year now that hasn't seen the coast!

Thanks Chris! I am glad you like this one. As far as the composition goes, I better not tell you then that I cropped some off the right on this one...

Hey Tuan... all I can say is
Yep, you need to get your butt back outdoors with your camera. Your baby must be like 6 years old now right?? So time to get back to work with your camera, we definitely miss your work in here.
Oh... and thanks for the kind words, I appreciate it.
