Some of you may recall I built a floating blind last year. I tethered it to the shore and it worked great for getting low shots. Problem was my pond is about 80 yards across, so it only worked if the ducks were close. So I thought I would float the blind into the middle of the pond for shooting. Good idea but not so easy. The blind works like a sail; impossible to control. Even when I did get out a distance an anchor was useless. Anyone need an anchor?!! Then I thought one of those small electric motors would work! Not so much. Anyone want an electric boat motor?!!!!! So then I just attached ropes front and back and pulled myself into the pond, tied the ropes tight and I am set. And the birds aren't spooked if I go slow.
Enjoy my latest shots and thanks for looking.
More tales to come!

Very nice set, with some very shy species! As they say for underwater pictures - you have to reduce the water-column between you and the target. Great job, reducing your air column
You Canadians certainly are industrious! Those are some fine shots Don and you must be really chuffed at the results. I love these low level images but unlike Kirk, I am not really thrilled with having thousands of ants crawling all over me.
So call me when you are next having a garage sale...I suspect you have a wonderful collection of hardly used stuff

Wonderful images Don. My favorite of the set is #2. My question is . . . how do you avoid making ripples yourself? And maybe you could post a photo of your blind. I like to make a lot of my own stuff too - http://www.carolinawildphoto.com/ToolsIndex.htm . Sounds like you came up with the solution using those ropes. Now that's thinking.
Way to go Don. I do remember your blind and the great shots you got from it. I'm glad you got it working and I hope you get a lot more great shots like these to share ~ Ron

I noted Ron's post and got the hint there were maybe some images of the blind already up somewhere so I went looking and found them. Quite a setup. You could hold a party in that thing.

Your blind paid off....well done!!
Thanks Jim. I'm not sure "paid off" is the correct term to use. I'd have to sell many photos to pay it off and I don't sell my photos !

Thanks for sharing.
Thanks. I've never thought about it like that but it does make sense.
