Mesmerising shot Fred. There's a great learning here - how a 'very small (and perhaps insignificant) tree bush' can be used to transform the complete composition.

WOW! I really shouldn't have seen this! I'm stuck between getting this lens and the 5dsR. I think you just nudge me a little more towards the lens! This is pretty epic very well done!!!

Love this shot Fred. This is not an easy place to get a good composition and you nailed this. great FG to show off the capabilities of the new lens.

Nice shot Fred, I love the mix of light throughout, from the bush to the crater to the distant hills.

Wow...wow...wow. So much to really like about this image, the loneliness of the tree, the crater, the sun in the back....and of course the colors and contrast too! TFS

Thank you Tree, I'm glad you liked it. The composition needed something in the foreground to tied everything together. I was lucky to find something quickly as the light was changing rapidly.

Neat shot, Fred. Really like the clouds and light on the mountain.

Thank you! The light was the mountains faded way very fast by the heavy clouds.

Love the light and shadows in this shot. Very nice.

The shadows were brought back a little bit in post. Thanks for the high dynamic range of the A7R, they were still clean at 100%.

Hi Fred, there is a lot going on here visually that is nice to look at. The light is really special. Love that dappled and slightly diffused light on the crater to the right in particular, as well as on the mountains in the distance of course. The composition does feel a bit too left heavy for me. A step or two to the left so that the bush wasn't starting in the middle and sweeping left would have really helped a lot in my eyes. As is, the right side feels quite empty with both the bush and the

Thanks for the great critique. I really appreciate it.

Stunningly dramatic, moody, balanced and exposed Fred! Foreground is "locked" with the tree and the scale, depth and emotion it provides to the rest of the image. Sky touches the mountains and boy is it dramatic! Great work!

I've stopped by this location before but could never get a good composition here. The crater is too wide and there is nothing of interest around it. How big was this tree?
I really like what you did here. Very dynamic shot.

Same here. I have been to this location a couple other times but was never blessed with good lighting. This time, the sky was dramatic and the light was right. Except for the gusting winds, conditions were great.
The tree was not as big as it looks. I was using a very wide lens (11mm) and that distorts the foreground quite a bit. That was my intention for this shot.

Thanks JR. I love waiting for the best light, it's what gives pleasure in photography. For this shot, it was a little difficult as the wind was almost pushing down towards the crater!

Thanks! I was lucky to find this bush as it worked for the angle I was shooting.

Thanks Sanjay,
The same goes for Racetrack. We are usually shooting a tiny stone on the ground but when we pull out our ultra wide angles, perception changes.

Hi Mike,
I love my TS-E17mm prime but this 11-24mm zoom is just as sharp all the way to the edges at 11mm! IMO, it's must have for landscape photographers shooting Canon.

I'm sold! I have the TS 17mm as well, and I just love the heck out of that glass. Hard to believe they got a zoom, and an unusual one at that, as sharp as the TS-E 17mm!! Wow!!
