I love Lake Superior, Pictured Rocks in particular. The images below were all taken during a backpacking trip a couple years ago. Gale force winds and scattered shower / t-storms made from some incredible conditions.
When I originally processed these, my skill set was not up to par for the images. So, I reworked these three images and wanted to finally share them with you.
Note on the first one - Some people see the "sunburst" in the background and assume this is a fake image since the sun can't be coming from that direction and still have a rainbow. It's not fake - the sun was behind me - what you're seeing in the background under the clouds is the sunlight hitting rapidly moving rain bands caused by 40 MPH+ winds!
What a great set of shots. I think for most of us it would probably be amazing to and re-edit some of our shots from 4 to 5 years ago and see what we can bring out of those shots now.
I do like #1, the double rainbow is special, but #3 is my favorite. I really love the mood in that one.
Sweet shots, number 2 is my favorite overall for the strong foreground and balanced composition. I love the frozen waves in 3 too. I think they're all oversaturated, but that's just my preference.
Lake superior? I know these spots. I used to live there before I even owned a P&S. Great catches. You tempt me to go back there. Well, so much to do and to see, so little time.
But thanks for showing these wonderful images.
was that somewhere by Duluth?
Very well done Steve! These are winners! I love the water in the last one the best. You have used the perfect shutter speed to capture the power of the waves. #1 takes it though as that double rainbow is amazing.
