Really nice ones. I do enjoy owl shots, as I hardly ever get to see owls for real. I'd love to be able to snap some, but I just don't have the magic yet to find them. Until then I'll enjoy yours.

Thank you everyone for the kind words. Most people like #2 better. I would like to know what makes this a more popular choose than #1, pose, lighting, etc. I'm trying to see things as other people see them, and trying to learn what to look for in the future when I'm photographing. All comments welcome. Thank you, Todd

The eye contact in #2 makes it for me Todd. The first has a large branch going through the bird. The second has a branch through his head , but it is blurred more and less of a distraction imo. Catchlight in the dark eyes would improve these, whether from a flash or pp.
Thank you Herb. I have a shot of #1 looking at me, but I choose this one because I thought it was a little different. If people like the eye contact look, then I will use that more in the future. The branch in #2 looks weird. There are distracting branches in these shots, but I just kept them natural with no PS.
Neat to find these during the day, Todd. I like the pose better in 2 but actually lean to the 1st. It has a cleaner BG. I like the angles of the branches. You never can tell with judges Catchlight would certainly help. I've found if you use a flash you get a serious case of "marble eye". May be a way to fix it in PP but it is beyond me. Perhaps someone can provide help with this. Bottom line for me, I like them both.
they are very difficult owls to photograph well...party due to the dark eye which makes a bit featureless...but your second is wonderful...well done.
