Fifty years from now when your great grandchildren are using your Zeiss lenses, the focus will still be functioning unlike your plastic Nikon with the broken AF motor. AF lenses just have too short of a turning radius and sloppiness to be accurate for focusing manually.

I have found one exception to that. M43 AF lenses use focus-by-wire and have a very decent focusing throw. The old 43-lens Zuiko 50/2 macro gives you two full turns from infinity to 1:2 magnification when you focus slowly. Still MF lenses have the very best feel.

For a top of the line company that charges a premium for their goods, I would not expect anything but top service. After all, you paid for it. Now, I've had the same excellent service from both Fuji and Feisol on products which cost me much less than my Zeiss gear.

Fuji fixed an issue with my camera which I got 2nd hand and was out of the warrant period by 4 months for free. They even paid shipping both ways.

Feisol sent me a new set of spiked feet for my tripod when I lost one of the feet...again for free.
