I am starting 2015 on Fred Miranda Forum with another photo from my Baffin Island 2014 Photo Adventure. Wishing everybody all the best in the New Year I am inviting you to comments and discussions. As usually they are appreciated.
Below you can find a description to this photo which I called the "Faraway Passage":
Before I went for my trip to Baffin Island I researched for hours possible locations for the best view points. On the map they all looked pretty close and not that hard to access. The reality proved to be different. The hike itself was not that difficult because there was not much of a difference in the elevation, but there were other problems. The main issue was with natural forces: glaciers& rivers. They constantly destroy the bottom of the valley making it unstable, with trail being frequently washed off and invisible.
Fortunately, after two days of hiking through the Auyuittuq National Park I have finally reached one of the points near Mt. Thor. I envisioned this spot earlier on the map as a plausible candidate for one of the best angles to showcase this legendary mountain. A low water level in the Weassel River made it possible to cross it and shoot this composition. This was one of the most colourful sunsets during the entire trip. The warm shades on the sky that afternoon made a welcoming invitation to continue this faraway journey.
Two shots for DOF 14-24mm@24mm, f/11, ISO 64, 1/4sec.
Great work, so often the terrine looks easily and passable, but in reality it's not. Love the comp and that crazy cut away mountain. The light on the FG rocks, really adds to the bottom half. All in all, a winning shot....
Thanks everybody. This is one of my favourite images from that trip (if not the most favourite one). It wasn't easy over there to get this much colour on the sky. This was one of those afternoons....
Additionally, in that particular spot it was pretty hard to get any composition. The water was running in all directions. It is probably not very visible on this photo but that river was quite big and I was jumping from one rock to another to catch the light and make decent composition.
Absolutely beautiful, and I really appreciate the fact that you don't have an over-the-top in your face style that seems so popular these days. This is very naturally presented, and feels authentic and genuine.
Very interesting composition here in this image with lots of curves; interesting lighted foreground rocks, sunlit reflected water line among lots of small pebbles, bow shaped mountain ridges supporting the legendary mountain, Mt. Thor? and sunlit clouds dancing around. Kudos for your much effort and brilliant image to share!
A++ as always from you Artur and doesn't need any words or lengthy explanations... the image speaks for itself.
One aspect that I love about your work is that they never look 'overdone' in PS and maintain the realistic feel that this is what you saw and managed to purvey to the viewer. Rare skill in this day and age of digital manipulation.
