Thanks for confirming what I believed.

I'm joining the club as I have a a7 in transit to Kolarivision. I am really looking forward to the results of this mod.

I hope it works out for you...

FYI:

Ilija informed me there will be some delay in the conversions due to the Schott factory fire in Duryea.

Looks like only a few filters are left (he said my camera will have one of the last few left - camera was received beginning of last week), then they'll have no filters for a month.

Too bad that fire.
I can wait though. In fact, I'm hoping that some of you guys with an already modded A7/A7r might be tempted to sell them if the new Sonys ( A7rII /A9x ? ) expected for the present year are enticing enough for an upgrade.

Since the A7r is the most problematic camera in the series when dealing with vignette and color cast, I'm thinking of converting it into a monochrome camera after the mod. Now I just need to wait for a cheap enough A7r modded or unmodded .

Do those with an M240 have the A7R for simply the higher MP count? Curious. A7/A7S (& M240) owners?

Yeah.... Unfortunately for me, I just clicked on the "Pay" button and received the reply about the low stock of the filter.

Ilija will inform me on when to send over the camera.

It's not at all a bad news, you might get the Mark 3 filter . At this point, Ilija thinks that the thickness is already optimal (thinner would lead to easy breakage). This filter only needs a few more minor adjustments to be perfect. He is working on modding for the A7II right now.

As an A7s owner and doing mainly landscape, I want the high MP and DR of the A7r (or the A9) for daylight shooting. By no mean the A7s is inadequate since I only print up to A3+ size. I have the grip so shutter vibration is typically not a problem.

Same here, at least I got the email the day before I would have sent the camera in ...

Hi Martin. 6 months ago I had the M240 x2, A7r x2. I did not buy the A7r only for the increased MP, but DR and ease of use. Being the first iteration there are still many quirks, but it is an excellent camera.

Once the A7s arrived, I used it extensively and loved the richness and tonality from the A7s more so than from the M240. So MP's is not the only quality. After this I sold both my M240's and have not regretted my decision.

IMO, the A7II has changed the way I feel about the Sony bodies, that I am almost disappointed when I don't have the IBIS with my A7r Mod. As the MP's go up, the technique and miss givings of the camera design will show up quickly to the point of frustration for a lot of photographers.

The Kolari mod on the A7r transforms into a great camera. There are obviously the initial quirks of the design, but it is still great camera. Technique in shooting, PP'ing and understanding the present limitations of the A7r is crucial to getting amazing RAW files. In essence there is an additional clarity to the images. Good Luck

So sorry to hear about the fire, but I daresay, the mod is a hit

Here is mine with my best two long lenses:

My M9 is back, so it's getting all the wide love at the moment.

did the 400/6.8 have that rather extreme inward field curvature towards the corners prior to the mod?

Charlie, so, you’re back to your beloved [Leica] thread after few months of suffering
Otherwise, what’s the point of re-announcing Leica’s services superlatives on Kolari dedicated thread. Tell us, not!

Getting a sharp 36MP image with IBIS will likely require an improved IBIS for the A7rII. My guess is the IBIS on the A7II won't be as effective at 36MP.

I really wish they can make sensor stack modification on Sony IBIS cameras possible, even if IBIS needs to be disabled, but I hope it can be married all together. This would ensure usage of RF lenses on new Sony models, particularly high MP versions.

The fire is very unfortunate and will certainly delay when I will send my A7r in for the sensor modification. I have no idea when I will do this now so that it will not interfere with my shooting.
