Most of my work is tighter than infinity shooting, and this is a slow time for me shooting wise (even more so given how busy I am at work.) I did post an infinity shot earlier in the thread. Not ideal...more of a casual snapshot. Next opportunity I have, I'll see what I can come up with.

My Leica R 28mm f2.8 Elmarit V2 is still at Sherry Krauter for a tune up. Hopefully she will finish with the lens toward the end of the week. If so, I may have the lens back in hand sometime next week (I hope) so that we may be able to get together to check my lens performance so that it can be compared with lenses that you have checked previously. I didn't want to say anything previously because the lens has been with Sherry for over 2 weeks now.
That sounds like fun Rich. We'll have to see if we can make something work, I've been so busy at work lately I haven't had any time to shoot.
The FE 16-35 seems to have a pretty flat field of focus, it would probably beat my Pentax at distance on the edges. My C/Y Zeiss 28/2.8 acts very similar to the Pentax. Oddly enough the Nikon 28mm 28mm AI-s seems very good on the edges at distance.
An excellent performer at 28 mm FL is also the very old Exakta 28/2.8 MC Macro lens which I inherited. It also has M42 Pentax mount. Just a photo which I took today with this lens and my A7R in the late afternoon (f/11, ISO 400, 1/100 sec).
Yep, it was one of the old lenses I have which really surprised me on the A7R. No vignetting, no chromatic aberration, sharp in the corners throughout the frame. And it is light weight, has a plastic body.

That's interesting as that lens appears to be Cosina made and was available in a few different mounts (and sold under various brand names). Any full size links?

How about the Minolta MC/MD 28/2?
I don't know about the F2 version first hand. I do have the MC W.Rokkor SI 28/2.5 and my copy is not quite as good across the frame as either Pentax here on the A7r. This link states that the F2 later versions of the MC and MD are not as good as the earlier 2.5 SI version on APS so I would suspect that would hold with FF as well. He did find the SI 2.5 version good into the corners on the less demanding A7 by F11. His reviews in general correspond with what I have found with various lenses over the years. http://artaphot.ch/sony-nex/altglas/341-sony-a7-and-classical-rokkors
On a side note, I really like to see a lens give good across the frame performance by 5.6 and pretty much perfect by F8. By F11, I see subtle softening and a slight loss of fine detail due to diffraction (but of course F11 is needed sometimes for dof). This is pretty much is what I'm seeing from the Pentax 31Ltd on the A7r (notably better than what I saw from the Loxia 35/2 with this sort of scene btw). It's good by 5.6, perfect by F8 (except for the extreme foreground in my posted examples where the dof requires F11).

I'm interested in the MD 28/2 also, the last 49mm ø version.
i tested both along with the komine made vivitar 28/2 close focus and the contax g 28/2.8 (focused closer than infinity to counteract the cover glass induced curvature).
the ø49mm filter thread rokkor 28/2 performed best with acceptable cross the frame performance (for me) by f/5.6. it did show a bit of midzone dip, but not enough to bother me.
note: i forgot to shoot the same exposure for each aperture so ignore illumination differences. also, i did not turn on auto CA correction in lightroom, these are strictly LR default settings except for white balance which is the same for all images.
Derek, the buildings in each of the non center crops look to be different distances from the camera than the center crop building. How about a closer distance test of a flat side of a building?

focus was on the center crop building which was slightly more than 1 mile away. buildings more towards the corner could be as far as 5 miles away. i cannot see any difference in location of best focus between 1 and 5 miles away with a 28mm lens at f/2. you'd be hard pressed to find an optical argument for there being a difference between focusing a 28mm lens at 1 mile or 5 miles as well. having said that, the more distant (corner) buildings will never look as sharp as the closer (center) building because of the greater atmospheric haze (particularly in a city).
i don't really trust flat field tests not taken at infinity because of the difficulty in getting a flat orientation to the subject. i also don't take them because i don't find them to be relevant to my use.
I also tired Nikon AIS 28/2, Kiron 28/2, and Nikon PC 28/3.5, none inspiring, but I don't have samples handy. In fact the A7 and A7r performance at 28mm led directly to my purchase of an M9.
