p.1 #1 · Johnston Canyon's Dreamy Falls

After a short hiking with Microspikes on my boots, this lower falls was reached without much trouble. It was rather slippery to have the tripod securely staged to take pictures of this beautiful frozen waterfalls though. Used long exposure to have the dreamy feeling of the waterfalls especially the bottom area.

Very cool photo! I really like the slow shutter speed, and how the shadow from the ice that nearly blocks the waterfall gives the scene even more depth.

Thanks Ben for your nice comments. I do like to use slow shutter speed for the waterfalls. Not too much but to aim at the necessary result seeking. It was rather fun to work with different shutter speed as well as f numbers for the DOF that is needed.

Nice shot Kee! Really an almost 3D effect with the water and ice at the top of the image.

Thanks Rajan for your comments.
The falls was beautiful especially when it was 80% frozen.

A really fine composition Kee! The pastel color against the stark blackness with the white ice/snow..wonderful!

Hello Gary!
Thanks to your advice and guides, I could go around the Canadian Rockies without much trouble, rather I enjoyed so much there I didn't want to come home.
You live in such a wonderful place! I envy you most.
Planning to go there again soon.
Kee

Hello Alan,
With your comment of the "3D effect".. I feel elated. Thanks!
Frozen waterfalls is more interesting to me, especially it it is half frozen!
Next time when I try this Johnston Canyon, I plan to go to the upper falls as well.
Last time, I chickened out.

Happy New Year, 2015, filled with your great photos again. Where would you go next?

Cheers!

Kee

Hello Dan,
I love and appreciate your kind comments on this image.
This lower falls from Johnston canyon was really awesome. Perfect harmony with half frozen falls with the nature.
I love Canadian Rockies.. Period!

Have a splendid and fruitful year of 2015.

Hello LDRider,
Thanks for your comments. I appreciated.
Well, there are shots of the larger portion of the lower falls from my trip. Maybe I will post them sometime later.
This particular image was not a crop, if you meant by the word.
A Happy Shooting and post your work here.

Kee, it's a beautiful picture, but I think crop can be improved to be more symmetrical. That will take rotating picture clockwise ~ 2.5 degrees, and cropping off some on the right.

Sasha.

Thanks Sasha for your comments and suggestion again here.
While I appreciate your suggestions for getting the image to be symmetrical I think the image you suggested will look rather unstable with the water coming down non-vertical. Not only that as for the compositional matter, I specifically tried to get the diagonal direction which goes to the opening of the falls then to the lower area where the water vanishes with the long exposure effect. Anyway.. I tried your suggestion to see how it will look with your guide. Happy Shooting! Kee
