Bengal Tiger, India - You Shall Not Pass:
I photographed this young Tiger in Bandhavgarh NP India earlier this year. The amazing experience lasted over 1 hour. It started as the mother and three cubs (large) slowly emerged on the left of our gypsy and slowly walked behind crossing the road. They went off to the right and we lost sight for 10 minutes. They re appeared and walked directly towards our gypsy and we had to reverse to give way. After while the cats sat down on the dirt road and we had to sit and wait and take a bunch of photos. Feel free to like my photo page if you enjoy seeing cats like this.

Lord of the Rings analogy aside..... that is one great image. The young tigers are so clean, and without scars! That is one fantastic experience. I've been to Bandhavgarh 3 times, so I know how fortunate you were. Congrats.
I'm curious; are there any elephant rides to see tigers yet? There wasn't any 1.5 years ago when I was there last.
Don
From my experience, the Tigers at Bandhavgarh are timid and do not lie in the road posing for pictures. What a nice opportunity and took took full advantage producing this wonderful picture.

Don they were not offered. Indian parks have changed a lot since they reopened. Finally most have a set structure of which circuit you drive. In Sri Lanka its maddening though. 40 jeeps come to the same spot after everyone calls each other. We tried to stay off the major jeep roads and try for a more quiet experience!

Beautiful photo! Did you find that you needed that long of a lens most of the time to shoot tigers? I am finding that in Africa it's about 50-50 with the cats with many opportunities much better served with a 70-200 than a 600mm.

between India and Sri Lanka I would highly recommend a 200-400 range. The zoom would be fantastic as you will find many opportunities to use that range. I was using my 70-200 for mainly elephants. 300 2.8 with and without a tele depending on how fast the subject was. You need to be fast though as there are lots of branches and the 600 F4 while great is a bit heavy to be rapid fast!
