Second quarter was by far my most difficult quarter to pick from as I had a wonderful opportunity to photograph a fox den...but then I also got to shoot a pygmy owl in Arizona and rather than bend the rules I will only pick one. But there maybe other ways I'll get those others in

Q1 Was really, really difficult to choose since I took the most amazing trip of my life in March (to Costa Rica). But I chose one that is one of my personal favorites and I believe is aesthetically pleasing as well.

Eric, I beleive you've actually photographed an Elf Owl here - its the smallest owl in North America!! Congrats!! It's an AWESOME shot!
Thanks Ashley, and I knew that I think I was thinking of the pygmy owl I was reading about recently and I had a brain fart...thanks for picking that up...I will edit the post.

For Q4, it was tempting to go with an eagle shot - partly because of the good fortune I've had with the raptors and partly because of the good company I've had with me many times going to photograph them. But instead I've gone with this shot - just because it's so unusual. I like things different I guess you could say. Image depicts a crow eating the last bits of an expired salmon at sunset. The official title is "Oh, You Need a Dentist". The unofficial title is "Ewwwww, gross!".

Q4 has been a bit lean for me for various reasons. I did manage to get this one though ..... a Goldfinch perched on an evergreen with some interesting backlighting.
Q4 was a bit of a bust for me when it came to Nature and Wildlife photography. After seeing all the great nature shots here, I've decided to go in a different direction and show nature in a slightly different way (and it's all I got!).

Well, my wildlife shooting ended earlier than anticipated during the 4th quarter due to an unfortunate personal family event that called me back to Illinois for several weeks. Still, I was lucky to find several Desert Bighorn Sheep this year at the start of the quarter. Since I didn't find any at all last year I consider myself fortunate in finding a small herd. This one was my favorite of the bunch. On a side note, I know people think of Southern Utah primarily as a place of cliffs and canyons and landscape photography. But I've found just about every possible creature here over the last several years (still looking for a mountain lion)... The critters are there, but are very well camouflaged...
Thanks for a great year!

Here's my Q4 submission. Like several others, I didn't have a real productive 4th quarter, but I still think it's a cute yellow finch to end the year with.
