As much as this lens was hyped ... QC should be excellent for the $$$ paid ...IMO ...
Hi Peter:
Grats on your lens finally arriving. Looking forward to your evaluation of the lens regardless of how long you need to take to come to your final answer.

True. Patience is a great virtue. He is upgrading his skills and biting fingernails attempting to match “Half bird” masterpiece, but I suspect all we’ll see are stacked batteries. I recommend Ever Ready brand.
After looking at the picts I switched my order from the 400 DO to Lens Babies.

Stupid test so far. No cropping info given. Images too small. Don't know which is worse, #2 or #3. #3 is so bad that I can't tell what it is.
That is the first post I have laughed out loud at in quite a white. Still laughing. After seeing the quality of your images I can see you there thinking WTF?
Peter have fun with your new lens. Get to know it's inner eye and see as the lens sees. Be one with the lens. Find it's strengths and weaknesses, once identified you will become the master of the lens and it will render images as your eye sees. Again have fun, and thanks for sharing your insights. In time you and the lens will reach Shangri-La and utopia will be achieved, then we will see it as you see it.

Where's a cat when you need one ?? Seriously a few stills would be great to give us an idea of IQ. I have no doubt the AF will be excellent. Perhaps the same scene at 400mm and then 1.4X and 2X pretty please
What is going on here? How can anybody who just got a lens like this not be out using it? Does anyone else have one yet? There has to be more than ONE lens like this in Canada. I want to see some real test shots. This is very frustrating.
BTW, I talked with B&H and they said they will be receiving enough lenses to fill all existing orders on the first day. I figure mine should arrive on about Dec 17th or 18th. You can bet I won't wait to unpack it!

That poor guy who is the only one qualified to polish DO lenses to Canon specs has only so much time. Two 400DO II's in Canada is a little bit extreme don't you think? He has other countries to think about.
This is reminding me of that one guy at parties who spends the whole night annoying everybody, running around letting the air out of all the balloons...
Evaluating a lens like that is a major effort, and it takes time. One or two decent shots do not cut it in my books....they have to be repeated, etc., etc., because they are many bad shots too that need to be explained away.
Posting two half-good pictures and saying the lens is the best yet Canon have made, is not what I do.
When I progress to something solid, I'll report it in this place. Until then gotta be patient, unless you want me to give you your money back.
