I have been looking for potential images of Hooded Mergansers for more than two years. When I mentioned that to a birder friend of mine, he replied, I know where to get them. We headed over to a golf course in Sedona, AZ and there were six pairs in the pond just to the right of the first tee. Fall colors and the red rock cliffs were reflected in the water which made for excellent shooting conditions.

great series Doug. The details are incredible, especially the wing and tail feathers in the reflections of #1 and 3.

Beautiful birds and the colors in the water are amazing. Second for me, because the water is a bit unique.
The captures of the mergansers are all excellent.

Absolutely stunning images of one of the more interesting birds.

The first time I saw a hooded merganser I thought it was a skunk swimming in the pond!!

Great photos of the Hoodies.

I live in AZ too (Tucson) and was just in Cottonwood. Deadhorse SP is my favorite place to shoot up there. Some nice insider tips would always be great when I'm heading up that way. If you come this way I can help you out too.
