p.1 #1 · Beams of light at Grand Central Station, NYC
There is a great photo opportunity that occurs in New York's Grand Central Station once in a "blue" moon. Its occurs when the sun is positioned directly center of the 43rd street (right above the UN building ) and casts its rays directly into the Grand Central station's large east side windows and onto the center concourse.
This photo opportunity occurs only several days in a year. The first opportunity occurs during the changing season from Winter to Spring, which I had missed as I did not have a digital camera capable of capturing the event. The second photo opportunity occurs during the transition from Summer to Fall; which is by the way occurring very soon. Even if the sun is right, one still has to hope for good weather. Needless to say this is a pretty unique shot
Anyhow, I did bring my camera today to try and capture a glimpse of what I am writing about. I'm a sports photographer by nature so I'm not all that great at landscapes/architecture... so please let me know which do you like and why : )

I think this shot works great in B&W! The color shot has in my point of view also a less interesting angle. The beams are very nice on the first two. In the beginning I was not sure, which one to choose, but finally I picked the first one. It's little darker and has more contrast, which I think gives the image more impact. It's a beautiful capture.

Thanks Arnez! I like the +contrast one better too.
Samie that one is very nice. So timeless. I wonder if it's more dusty then than now... I don't know if I can get that kinda shot anymore
Hi J
I didn't expect that one would get the same quality, this subject is revisited by photographers alot,I just thought I'd share the one I know from wayyyy back in time ...
I like youts very much

Those are beaufiul photos, I have been NYC on July 4th, but the reason I couldn't take photos inside of Grant Station because I got some policemen asking my authorization. :-( , you are seem to be very lucky. I could take photos inside St.Patrick Church, while my friends couldn't do that. I guessed we are all based on the luck when shooting at NYC now.

There might be a more practical reason why you couldn't repeat that shot.
It was probably done with a large format camera on a tripod. It probably had a long shutter speed to let the light stand out like that. The people don't look too blurred or are those multiple exposures because of a slow shutter speed.
Anyway, you need a permit to use a tripod now and I don't know how easy it would be to get one.

I thought that was only if you wanted to use a tripod. Have the rules changed since the last time I was there?
