p.1 #1 · Icy Cascade

It has been almost a week now since I last visited this location. I've wanted to come sooner but I had a very busy week. Luckily yesterday I had a change to revisit. This place is getting quite spectacular now with all the ice formations. One could probably take an infinite number of photos. That is why I keep coming back. Instead of snapping a hoard of photos each trip I have been focusing on one or two spots and working to get the best of them. This time it was this location. A very tricky perspective to get and set up for so I decided to hang there until sunset as the hassle of setting up again wasn't something I wanted to do. This was my 6th trip here in 2 weeks and the first time I got some decent colour at sunset. Still not a nuclear sky to light up the ice like I am hoping for but great none-the-less. Maybe today if I go back I'll get that sky. This type winter scenery is what allows me to cope with winter. I just love all the details in the ice and how it reflects light and how I can come back the next day and things look different.

Thanks for looking!

Great perspective, Scott, with the dramatic foreground leading your eye up the stream. Really sharp, icy details. Keep showing more.

Heck Yeah! Love this one, man. The composition is sublime with the zig zags all the way up the stream, even continuing into the tilting trees up top. That bit of pink sky is so small, yet it does add a lot to the scene. The texture in the ice is wonderful, and the slow shutter speed adds to the calming nature. One of my favorites wide angle landscapes I've seen from you.

Great image Scott! I think you deserve the moniker, "Ice Man" if it hasn't already been bestowed on you

Thanks for posting!

Thank you Dan. Hmmmm...Ice Man, makes me thing of the 1984 movie Iceman. Maybe they will find me frozen in ice one day!

Boy, I would kill to have as much photo time as you Scott! I love the PP of the ice and snow here. The composition somehow seems skew though.

Thank you very much Helenica. Great eye on the level. I have to confess, when composing this image—I spent a lot of time studying this scene and finding what I thought was the best composition—I realized that to get what I wanted in the photo I had to go off-level to achieve it. I thought based on the composition and lines throughout that it wouldn't really be much of an issue and it wasn't until you pointed it out. So I was forced to face the elephant in my room and looked at the image again. I've updated the OP. I think it makes a big difference so thank you again for that.

This is a sweet shot Scott! I'm digging the light quality on the ice, and that sweet foreground formation.

Really excellent shot Scott. The ice and water flow contrast really nicely with the cloud color. I can't help but think how uncomfortable it would be to fall into that stream though...

Really like this shot Scott! The ice in the foreground is what i'm really drawn to, but then it's nice to follow the stream up to the top fall. Awesome

Scott,

Super shot man. That foreground is really nice. The patterns are lovely.
