p.1 #1 · Eureka Dunes in Death Valley

So here I go with the sand again, right?
While my good friend Mark Metternich was exploring places full of water, I was exploring places full of sand
Yes, I always wanted to explore Eureka Dunes in Death Valley NP. There are several reasons for that but a main couple of them stand out. First, these are one of the tallest dunes in US, if not the tallest at close to 700 feet. They are also white sand dunes (maybe not as white as those in New Mexico but quite white nonetheless).
Despite the fact it's just a sand, the place is incredibly full of life, literately an oasis for life in the valley. There are some really good articles on the Internet about these dunes so if you like you can read all about them. Also, they look impressive, and are very photogenic after the sunset (during the sunset they look good too but I was there for the afterglow shots). What I was trying to achieve on this shot was to capture the subtle change of shades and waviness of dunes. The pristine condition of the sand looked beautifully, and this is exactly what this "calming" image is all about.
Click on it to enjoy it on a black background.
Update: Added another image.

That's pretty gorgeous, Gregg. Love the play between the light and the dark, and the bush really anchors the scene.

Love this shot! Great light and sand detail you've captured. Having the bush in the frame was a great decision.

Dangit, now I think I have to put Eureka on the list for my short DV trip next month

Eureka! This is one of the best dune pics I've seen. Definitely wall worthy!

Takes a fair amount of discipline to see and capture that shot. I'm seriously impressed and would love to see it printed up large.

Peace,

Todd

Wow, the tones/texture & color are sweet.
The lone tree makes it a jewel.

Nicely seen & captured.

Thank you all. I added another image I just processed. Taken next day so colors are different, but still whitish.

Hey Greg,

Both are great shots from you. I think I like #2 a little bit better.

Nice job, and you have my vote!

Great job, Greg. The little bush adds a lot. Texture is wonderful.

You are lucky to have virgin dunes. We just visited Saline Dunes and surprisingly they were tracked up!

A very beautiful duo of shots, love the inclusion of the singular tree which adds some sense of scale.
