Sorry to be the spoil-sport here, but I honestly don't see why this image has been getting so many accolades.
It appears to be way over-processed, i.e. among other things, it appears to be suffering from heavy-handed noise reduction. And the moment of capture isn't exactly flattering to the baby. Open mouth? I don't think staring into a baby's mouth makes for an appealing photo. I don't think staring into ANYONE'S mouth makes for an appealing photo ... unless of course you're a dentist.
And is the baby crying? Screaming? It sure looks like it might be. He/she looks pretty angry to me.
I'm sure this baby has some cute and highly attractive moments ... as all babies do. But to my eyes this doesn't appear to be one of them.
BTW: I have four children and four grandchildren, including a newborn (2 months old). I've taken thousands and thousands of pictures of my kids. Can't say I'd be so quick to upload one that looked like the OPs.

This is so adorable. What makes this a difficult capture is that the baby has really dark eyes. I like the way you added the highlights into the eyes.
Asian babies do have some dark eyes, so it's imperative a catch light is present. Thanks!

Whoa whoa buddy, why such hostility? I get it's not your cup of tea but no, there isn't any NR at all. The baby is YAWNING and if you can read articulations and gestures a bit better I think you would learn that the baby is rather happy then distressed.
WHY do all baby photos have to be pre-posed or of them sleeping and smiling too?
Also, the focus is the FACE...so I apologize the mouth was so appealing to you. I really don't understand why you are so offended. I'm sorry you were touched wrong by the photo, really am. Have a nice day Steve.

Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed I see. I'd say you are alone and not hard to believe...unless there is more of you scumbags then let me know so I can leave early.
This baby is sooo cute and where do you see any resistance or pain? Plus all babies cry anyway so what's the big problem?
This forum has too many old folks with the dumbest comments and all so negative complaining about dumb things like a person's mouth being open or ring catch-lights or an artistic two-tone post processing when it's normal.
Hello folks we are in 2014, keep up.
Now the feature thread is also bashed on. Great community guys! NOT!

My comments are only seen as "bashing" when one isn't open to the idea that the image may not appeal to everyone.
Opinions to the contrary of the majority are part and parcel of an OPEN forum, my friends. If you stick your nose out on fm.com or any other photo-centric community, you have to expect that you aren't going to please everyone.
Would you have preferred that I remain silent? That's called censorship and, in some countries, dictatorial.
So, no, I did not get up on the wrong side of the bed. And I'm about as up-to-date as anyone else ... maybe more so. I just don't think it's a good photo, no hostility intended.

You should talk. How about you calm down first? You are a paradox as you "wonder" why people are giving accolades then try and defend yourself about bashing when they are synonymous in point. You felt the utter same way so you made a harsh comment.
Ishootstars did the same thing except it was in contrast to YOUR OPINION so maybe it shouldn't bother you why OTHERS' OPINIONS of the image is nice to them.
Censorship is when it is FORCED bro, and the same reason net neutrality is such a hot topic atm. Sorry, but you are a bit outdated. Try and relax a bit before you tell others to especially when you started the fire lol.
Btw I'm sure a lot of us participate in a lot more forums than you as we don't see this type of oldschool behavior from retouchpro, mm, dp, café, lounge, etc should I keep going? Surprisingly, this only occurs at FM lately. Who really says overprocessed to a slight color adjustment? And NR from a shot taken next to a window with PLENTY of light? Have you been shootin' lately?
Don't dish out the hurt if you can't handle the hurt yourself.

There's nothing wrong with you not liking the picture. It was the way you tried forcing your opinion and how cynical your approach was.
So what you have this amount of children and grandchildren (your way of trying to show how much experience you have so it makes it easier to force your ideology, which by the way is "dictatorial" to a sense)?
In a way, I felt like you were the one imposing censorship by saying you would never post something like that so the OP shouldn't either?
Such a hypocrite. I'm done with this. Sorry to the OP for the negativity.
