Autumn in the Adirondack State Park in upstate New York is always a sight to behold and I highly recommend it for any landscape photographer. Unfortunately, it often seems passed over in favor of other New England destinations. At 6 million acres, there is something for everyone here! In addition to the mountains, what makes it so appealing to me is the prevalence of water; whether its lakes, ponds, streams, waterfalls or bog. The combination of mountains, foliage, water and the cool nights create stunning opportunities for photography. I'm still working through my images from my recent trip 3 weeks ago, but here is a taste from years past. Enjoy!

3rd and 4th shots remind me of my backpacking days back in the 70's.
Glad to see that it is still unspoiled, well done on the images.

I live about 3 hours from the Adirondacks, but have yet to make a photo excursion there. That being said, your photos have prompted me to start planning a trip for next year.

Great shots! Really breathtaking views, especially in #1 and #3. Great job!

NCam, yes do it! If you think you'll be staying in the bigger towns (relatively speaking) you'll want to be sure to book a room well in advance of peak fall color. That being said, despite hotel/motels being full, it doesn't take much to find a gorgeous summit that you'll have all to yourself. Year and after year I'm astonished by how few photographers I run into.

Chris, these are a great series of images! The Adirondacks are were I started hiking and enjoying the great outdoors, so it has a special place in my heart. Your images do a great job of showing how wonderful that area is. Thanks for posting!

Thanks for the kind words kwilliam8. From the reaction I've gotten from folks over the years, I've noticed that the Adirondacks hold a special place in many people's hearts - even if they only visited a few times. It's a magical place.

Yeah a great park. And not only does it have all that you mention, but it also has the greatest extent of unlogged forest east of the Mississippi (and now that the West has been so utterly cut over, more than most out there too). The only other place that comes close is Great Smoky Mountain National park.
