Finally got my Tamron 150-600 from Amazon after being back ordered for 2 months. Love this lens. It's very sharp. A few initial images with the D750. All were shot at f/9. Yes they are slightly PS CS6 edited but didn't need to sharpen..................
*** UPDATE/NOTE: Talked to Tamron USA. If you box comes with a hologram sticker that says "6yr warranty" then you have the USA/Warranty version. If it does not then you have a gray market version and Tamron USA said they won't even work on it. You'd have to call Tamron Japan. My lens bought and shipped from Amazon does have the warranty. Other sellers on Amazon couldn't tell ya. FYI
I bought the Tammy for my India trip and I now have a love hate relationship developing. In brilliant light my copy of the lens just freezes on a D810. However, even a wisp of passing cloud turns it around completely.
Just took this last night of the side of a house at night with only a street light on. Boring shot but not too bad for capabilities. I think I shook the lens a bit as I was standing and haven't gotten used to holding this big lens. Definitely workable in Photoshop.........

couple from a morning stroll. Really have a love/hate relationship with this lens. Shooting at 2000, dot tuned the lens (not with a chart but instead on a black/white street sign) but not getting near results like many others and wondering what Im doing wrong
What focal length did you fine tune it at? To me it looks back focused on the chickadee and front focused on the Hawk. I tried the dot tune method and got inconsistent results so i just study my images and decide what is the best setting.. Also you may be expecting too much. Even with a 600mm lens you still have to get close to your subject and fill the frame as much as possible.
@DanH, There is only so much you can crop. Here is one from this morning that is cropped to 4000x3600. 550mm F7.1 ISO 720 1/200th handheld. APX distance 50 feet... I constantly check the focus plane on shots like these to make sure my fine tune is accurate...
Some more 150-600mm shots from SEA the other day with my D750. This is a really sharp lens. I did a little Photoshop work smoothing out the grain and adding a touch of color.
Contemplating renting one of these to shoot a soccer tournament in March - just curious if those of you that have used it think it's a decent lens to shoot sports with or if it would just be a waste of money? I've seen some people saying it's fantastic on a sunny day but not so much when it's cloudy, which has me a little hesitant.
xphile101 - As I have written elsewhere on this forum my copy of the lens is kind of strange. I bought this for a trip to India as the new 400/2.8 E was unavailable.
On the trip what I noticed was that in brilliant or harsh afternoon sunlight of India, the lens struggled to acquire or retain focus while tracking. I was in a relative stationary paddle boat trying to shoot Spotbilled Pelicans nesting but when the Peli's dove into the water and came back flying up their water drenched heads glistened and the lens had a hard time tracking them. This is not surprising but what was surprising was in the same tracking motion if I refocussed on some low flying River Terns, the lens still failed to get a focus lock.
However a tiny wisp of passing cloud overhead; it snag like a cuckoo
Yesterday when I used it at LD14 tracking a lone BE the experience was similar. There were atleast 2 other photogs shooting the Tammy on their 7100 and D800 who said that their experience was different.
I am going again tomorrow and will update this thread if I hopefully get to see more BE's
Sritri, your BE shots above look amazing. Can't believe these Tammy captures beautiful images like you have. Also, you must be living pretty close to LD14, I'm jealous.
Are you saying your Tammy doesn't work well with harsh/bright afternoon light, but works great with somewhat muted light?
I have mine on order at B&H, it's taking a while...
